Unless you or someone you are close with is a dentist, you may not be familiar with what a sinus lift is and why it’s done. A sinus lift surgery, or a sinus augmentation, is a surgical procedure that is done to make room for more bone in the upper jaw (around your molars) in patients who don’t have enough bone for dental implants. By actually lifting your sinus, we at Clear Lake Dental Care will be able to create enough room for more bone so that your dental implants can be properly anchored. So, what else does this surgery involve and how can you prepare for it? Let’s take a closer look.
When Is A Sinus Lift Necessary?
Just like with any oral procedure, we aren’t going to recommend a sinus lift unless it’s necessary. The most common reasons why we recommend a sinus lift is when:
- Your sinus cavity is too close to your upper jaw
- You have lost teeth need dental implants, but don’t have enough bone to support the implants.
- You have a periodontal disease which contributes to bone loss.
- Your sinus cavity is too close to your upper jaw
What Is The Procedure Like?
During this procedure, we will add bone underneath your sinus cavities which are on either side of your nose. Once we add the bone, we shift your sinus cavity upward to make enough room for the new bone and the rest of your jaw.
