What Should I Do If I Haven’t Seen The Dentist In Years?

At Clear Lake Dental Care and Implant Center, our dentists offer patients solutions for their oral health. Our dentists also understand that there are many reasons why patients may put their dental appointments on hold. Perhaps a patient is dealing with a loss of employment or dental insurance coverage. Maybe the family welcomed a new baby or moved to a new area. Whatever the reason, it is vital that patients still maintain routine visits with their dentist. Even if this doesn’t happen, Drs. Piyuse Das, An Pham, and Grisel Acevedo Rivera can help you get back into your schedule without delays in care or treatment. Visiting the dentist at least every six months is recommended by the American Dental Association, as well as the team here at Clear Lake Dental Care and Implant Center.

What Should Be Done If I Haven’t Seen The Dentist For A While?

First and foremost, our dentists do not pass judgement on patients who have not been able to visit their practice on a regular basis. We understand that circumstances change and certain life events can require more attention. We do encourage patients to let us know how long it has been since they have had a dental appointment so we can better understand what needs to be done. During the first appointment, our team will provide a thorough cleaning by one of our dental hygienists. The teeth and gums will be cleaned using our special instruments, and this allows our staff to look for signs of problems such as infection or decay. This information is passed on to the dentist for further evaluation. During this first appointment back to the dentist, patients may also have a series of dental x-rays completed. These images allow the dentist the opportunity to see what is going on in the smile beneath the gum line and plan any necessary treatments to restore oral health.
