Whether your kids are grown and out of the house or if you still have little ones, nothing can make the holidays feel quite as magical as traditions. And, one of the most fun traditions that families everywhere like to enjoy is Christmas stockings. Even though stockings are traditionally filled with sweet treats like chocolates and candy, try filling them with some more oral healthy tips instead.
Sugar-Free Chewing Gum
What’s worse than reaching into your bag or back pocket for a piece of gum only to find out that you’re all out? Load up your kid’s stockings with sugar-free chewing gum this year. Chewing gum isn’t just a great way to freshen your breath, but it also helps to speed up your mouth’s natural production of saliva which works to fight off cavities, bacteria, and harmful plaque.
Battery Operated Toothbrushes
This suggestion is mostly for parents with younger kids, but adults might like them as well. A battery operated toothbrush isn’t necessarily going to clean your kid’s mouths any better than a regular toothbrush, but they may give them an incentive to brush more frequently. Plus, because most batteries operated toothbrushes come decked out in popular cartoon characters, it will make your kids that much more excited about brushing their teeth before bed every night.
Here at Clear Lake Dental Care, we offer patients in-house whitening, but for patients who just have some topical stains caused by things like black tea and coffee, over-the-counter whitening strips may do the job. Just make sure that you aren’t giving whitening strips to children under the age of 18.
