Sedation Dentistry
What Is Sedation Dentistry?
If you are terrified of dental work, Clear Lake Dental Care has great news for you. We offer sedation dentistry so you can get treated comfortably. This treatment is especially useful in patients with sensitive teeth, a strong gag reflex, sensitive gums, or a fear of needles and drills.
Sedation is the use of medication to help you relax during your appointment. Sedatives can be administered through a small mask placed over your nose, taken by mouth, or injected through IV. Sedation Dentistry is used to ensure patients feel no anxiety or discomfort during treatment, with little-or-no memory of the procedure after treatment.
When used for lengthy procedures, it can seem to patients that they have only been treated for a few minutes. This also allows extensive treatments to be completed in only one or two appointments.

Available Options For Sedation Dentistry:
At Clear Lake Dental Care we offer a range of sedation options for each patient:
A calming effect for patients with slight dental anxiety. Wears off quickly and patients can drive themselves home after their appointment.
A great option for patients with moderate to severe dental anxiety. Patients are very groggy and some even fall asleep during their appointment but can be awoken easily. Most patients don’t remember much about the appointment.
This requires one of our anesthesiologists to administer medications through an IV. This method of sedation is perfect for patients who have severe dental anxiety or don’t sedate well with other medications.
Who Is A Good Candidate To Have Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation and pain relief are not the same things. At Clear Lake, we offer sedation to help patients deal with strong feelings of fear and anxiety that arise when they visit the dentist. After receiving sedation and successfully completing their appointment, patients often change the entire way they view dental appointments going forward. Sedation could be a great option if you:

- Have difficult overcoming anxiety about the dentist
- Have a low pain threshold
- Have very sensitive teeth
- Have a very strong gag reflex
- Need a large amount of work done
Once you’re sedated and comfortable, we then properly numb, or anesthetize, the area we are working on, ensuring that your procedure is pain free.
Experts In The Field
No matter how often you brush and floss, regular dental visits are still necessary. Clear Lake Dental Care in Webster, TX can do so much in preventing dental disease and making sure your mouth stays healthy for a lifetime. Local anesthetic has made procedures virtually pain-free, but millions of people are still afraid of the dentist. Many even postpone necessary dental care due to fear.
Our methods of sedation shouldn’t be confused with general anesthesia. That is sleep anesthesia. General anesthesia is used for surgical procedures.
Our sedation options allow our patients to relax, but they remain conscious so that they can respond to requests and instructions from Dr. Das, Dr. Pham, and Dr. Acevedo. Both IV sedation and oral sedation have an amnestic effect, so patients have little recollection of their appointment.
Also, this isn’t to be confused with anesthesia to eliminate pain. Once the patient is fully sedated with their desired option, then we deliver local anesthetic so that you don’t feel a thing.
This depends on the type of sedation you’ve chosen. If you’ve opted for oral sedation, you receive the pill from 30 to 60 minutes before your procedure begins. The pill will make you drowsy, but you’re still awake.
Nitrous oxide delivers virtually instantaneous results. It is given through a mask that’s placed over your nose. The delivery and its effects are immediate, and so is the reverse. As soon as the mask is removed the effects wear off in just a few seconds.
If you’ve opted for moderate sedation with an IV, we have an anesthesiologist who handles this sedation. This is delivered intravenously, and its effects are instantaneous.
We can provide sedation for any procedure. If you’re anxious about having something as simple as your teeth cleaned, there is no reason for that. Simply ask for sedation, and you’ll feel relaxed and without worry.
When you suffer from dental anxiety, it can be a crippling feeling that will keep you away from the dentist’s office for years. We understand that it can be a tough thing to ask of you to break free of your dental anxiety all on your own. In knowing this, Clear Lake Dental Care offers numerous options, in addition to sedation dentistry, that can help you beat your dental anxiety once and for all.
